Creative Cooking is committed to providing you with quality, handmade products created from scratch, using the freshest and best ingredients available.
In 2011 Creative Cooking started at City Market by sampling and selling a couple of handmade artisan products with the purpose of promoting private cooking classes.
It soon became obvious that our future lay in providing quality patisserie, and now the focus is on French macarons made from scratch using real fruit and nut fillings to create authentic flavours.
Nikki Van de Laar
On leaving school in UK with “A” levels in Biology and chemistry, I studied at Wellington Polytechnic and graduated with a NZ certificate in Analytical Chemistry. I spent 10 years in a laboratory, analysing everything from mercury levels in export fish, at the Cawthron institute in Nelson to pesticide residues in crops at Ciba Giegy at Duxfield, UK.
For the next 8 years I was at home being a fulltime mum before progressing into a variety of part time jobs.
In January 2006 I was made redundant from my teacher aiding position and decided it was time to do what I was passionate about. “It was now or never” so…..I went to study at Weltec and after 18 months qualified with:
London City & Guilds Certificate and Diploma in Food Preparation and Cooking (Culinary Arts) 2006.
Best Overall Student Award 2006
London City and Guilds certificate in Patisserie.
I have worked in a variety of cafés, restaurants, bakeries and catering kitchens, both as a chef and pastry chef, making everything from Danish pastries to cocktail food.
Experience in scientific research, an understanding of chemistry, a passion for cooking (baking in particular) and recipe development led me into starting up my own business in 2012. I am now owner, pastry chef, dish hand, marketing manager, salesperson and R & D manager at Creative Cooking - my happy place!
I love developing new products, using the best quality ingredients to produce real artisan gourmet fare for you to enjoy!
From my kitchen to you!
